IMAP Client

Why set up an IMAP client?

If you plan to set up the same email account on multiple PCs, or use one or more PCs and Webmail at the same time, you will likely need to set up an IMAP client. If you do not set up each mail client as an IMAP client, you may get duplicate emails when you check mail using Webmail, then using your email client, or when checking mail from one PC to another when the option to leave a copy on the server is checked.

The difference between an IMAP client and a POP client is that your mail stays on the servers and is managed directly on the servers with an IMAP client. This includes the creation of any folders. With a POP client, mail is pulled off the servers and stored locally on your PC and any folders created reside on your PC.

To set up an email account as an IMAP client, please refer to the appropriate email setup for your operating system and email client and when you get to the step to choose the type of account, instead of selecting POP3 account, select IMAP.
